We understand that the decision to allow your beloved companion to undergo surgery is never an easy one. We strive to ensure your pet's surgical procedure is as comfortable and stress free as possible. Perhaps the most important pre-surgical step we take is to discuss with you why we believe a particular procedure is necessary and what it entails. We also provide information on proper postoperative care and answer any questions you may have so that you feel comfortable knowing you are making the right choice for your pet. We approach this aspect of our profession with a deep sense of compassion for all animals. Our staff members have years of experience and are highly trained. During surgery, your pet is continuously monitored by a registered veterinary technician. While each pet is under anesthesia, their vital signs are closely monitored. A pulse oximeter is used to provide additional information regarding the heart rate and oxygen levels. Pets that are presented for surgery are given a pre-medication to help ease anxiety and stress and prepare them for their procedure. We also have a strong focus on pain management, even for the simplest procedures. In order to enable a successful surgery and recovery, the control of pain associated with the procedure must be kept at the lowest possible level. Like us, your pet feels pain and discomfort. Pain management is a top priority in all our surgical cases. Every hospitalized pet at Silverado Veterinary Hospital has his or her pain level checked regularly. Surgery is performed using the most current and safest anesthetics available today. Anesthesia is individualized for each pet based upon a number of factors including the type of procedure, pre-existing conditions, blood test values, age, breed and prior anesthetic experience. We limit the amount of anesthesia (without sacrificing pain control) by employing pre-medications, local anesthetics, epidurals and by using continuous rate infusions of pain medications. Your pet's anesthesia time is also reduced by having a highly trained and organized surgery team, utilizing the most up-to-date instruments that shorten surgery procedure time. We believe it is in your best interest and the best interest of your pets for us to offer as wide an array of surgical services from our facility as possible. While our general practitioners provide for your pet's regular surgical needs our surgical team is also able to offer advanced state-of-the-art procedures in soft tissue and orthopedics. We view every surgical procedure as a major operation, from the common spay to the complicated orthopedic case. |
